8th Annual Eat Local Now Dinner Celebrates Healthy Local Food for Everyone
Eat Local Now! announces their 8th annual fundraising dinner to celebrate the local food economy. This vibrant and successful fundraising dinner celebrates the cultivation of our local food economy from farmer to family.
SEATTLE, WA, September 14, 2011 /Environment PR News/ -- Eat Local Now! announces their 8th annual fundraising dinner to celebrate the local food economy. This vibrant and successful fundraising dinner celebrates the cultivation of our local food economy from farmer to family and is a sell-out event every year.
Eat Local Now! is now part of National Food Day, which advocates for access to healthy, sustainably grown foods for everyone and protecting the environment by reforming factory farms, curbing junk food marketing to kids and supporting fair conditions to food and farm workers.
The star attraction is fresh local food prepared by Herban Feast's award winning chef Dalis Chea. Locally and sustainably produced beer, wine and fresh cider will be available at a cash bar. Other organizations involved in our local food economy will have information at the event about purchasing locally as well as growing your own food.
Sustainable West Seattle, CoolMom, Herban Feast and The Seattle Good Business Network are sponsoring the 8th Annual Eat Local Now! dinner at Herban Feast's Sodo Park venue on October 24. The evening includes dinner, speakers active in the local food movement, exhibitors, a silent auction and music. Eat Local Now! encourages participation in local food systems and food equality. While celebrating a resilient local food economy and Pacific Northwest cuisine, we'll examine how to manage our homes and make wise decisions about what sustainable, practical, healthy food choices are available to us.
The Jeff Fairhall Local Food Hero Award will be presented at the event to a person working to promote local food in the community. Local Food Heroes can be nominated by completing the nomination form by September 23rd. Last year the award went to Aviva Furman for her work in building vibrant local economies through community projects such as Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle and the Community Orchard of West Seattle. Previous winners are Richard Conlin and Viki Sonntag.
Non-profit and local business exhibitors will display information on many local food related organizations and a silent auction will feature a wide variety of locally donated items ranging from restaurant gift certificates to CSA subscriptions.
The 8th Annual Eat Local Now! celebration supports our local food producers and allows the people the opportunity to talk to the farmers, fishers, ranchers, bakers and those who make the local food system possible. The celebration includes dinner, speakers active in the local food movement, exhibitors, a silent auction, live music and a kids' corner throughout the evening.
Tickets are $50 for adults and $10 for children under 12 and are available at Brown Paper Tickets or by calling 1-800-838-3006. For more information about the 8th Annual Eat Local Now! visit EatLocalNow.org or follow ELN on Twitter @EatLocalNow.
Eat Local Now! is organized by a collaboration of Seattle Good Business Network, Sustainable West Seattle, CoolMom, Sustainable Cascadia, and community members at-large.
