AMMAN, JORDAN, April 12, 2011 /Environment PR News/ -- Le Meridien Amman and Starwood Hotels & Resorts achieved distinguished results from its latest Charity and Environmental campaign that was launched in Middle East region as of November 1st, 2010 and lasted on 31st of January 2011. The aim of the campaign was to protect the environment and raise money to provide wheel chairs to children with disabilities. Le Meridien Amman has donated the wheelchair which was bought from this initiative to Al Hussein Society for the Habilitation and Rehabilitation of the Physically Challenged.
Le Meridien Amman and more than 14 Starwood properties across the Middle East came together to support the cause by collecting plastic caps from bottles used at their hotels and raised funds by selling them to plastic recycling companies in the region. Along with that, hotel associates have also collected caps from their homes and neighborhoods to contribute to the collection and participated in different activities that have been conducted by the hotels to support this cause particularly.
"I'm proud to announce that Starwood hotels in the ME have managed to collect more than 1,380 kgs of plastic caps which have been replaced by 62 wheel chairs which were distributed by the participating Starwood properties to charity association in the ME that cares for handicapped people in their places. The initiative has also contributed in cleaning up some places in the region from garbage, in addition to processing used materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials." said Guido De Wilde, Vice President & Regional Director, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Middle East.
