Make A Resolution That Will Be Easy to Keep - Get a Residential Energy Audit

Is there a 2011 New Year resolution you can make to reduce your carbon footprint and save money in your household budget? Find out how you can make your home more energy efficient and reduce your utility bills.

PHOENIX, AZ, December 29, 2010 /Environment PR News/ -- Is there a 2011 New Year resolution you can make to reduce your carbon footprint and save money in your household budget? In 2011, SKY Renewable Energy will be offering residential energy audits. SKY Renewable Energy Project Manager Ben Wallis can perform an audit on your home to save you money, make your home more energy efficient and reduce your utility bills.

In order to prepare for an audit, The Department of Energy suggests that you make a list of existing problems and have summaries of your past energy bills. Your family's behavior in the home affects the energy efficiency. Fact gathering about the average thermostat setting, average hours the home is occupied every day and the average use of each room can be helpful information for the energy auditor to understand your household energy consumption.

SKY Renewable Energy can conduct a residential walk-through energy audit which would consist of a room-by-room examination of energy systems including heating/cooling, building envelope, appliances and lighting. With a summary of your past utility bills, SKY Renewable Energy can then identify potential energy conservation measures (ECMs) that will save energy and costs.

Two of the most common ways an energy auditor can detect energy loss are: a calibrated blower door test and thermography. A blower door test provides information about air leakage and energy loss while thermography measures surface temperatures by using infrared video and still cameras. Thermography is often used during the blower test because the air leakage is exaggerated at that time and appears as black streaks in the infrared camera.
