GreenDoggieBags are different from other 'biodegradable' products in that they biodegrade in composts and landfills.
GreenDoggieBags are not heat or moisture sensitive like cornstarch products, and they do not release harmful metals like oxy-degradables. Cornstarch and oxy-degradable products only biodegrade in composts but remain indefinitely in landfills, creating the same problems conventional products cause.
GreenDoggieBags was launched in Miami after the President, Padma Pandya, learned about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch that scientists now believe is three times the size of Texas and has surpassed reasonable clean-up capabilities of any country. It is one of several islands around the world, or floating states rather, which are permanent fixtures in our oceans, poisoning and killing millions of marine life annually. Beached whales are regularly found with yards of plastic in their stomachs, while smaller marine life either die from eating the plastic garbage or being trapped by it, thus inhibiting their range of motion, suffocating them, and subsequently dying. The floating garbage states are also responsible for the 'dead zones' globally which deprive the ocean of oxygen and make those areas uninhabitable to all marine life.
